Heads up holidaymakers - car parks in Dublin and Shannon airports already sold out for some days

Car parking spaces at both Dublin and Shannon airports are completely sold out for some days during this year’s peak summer season, with holidaymakers warned to plan well in advance to secure spaces.

Millions of passengers are expected to pass through Ireland's busiest airports, as the summer season begins. Representatives from both airports fear that they will not be able to accommodate the high number of vehicles expected with the summer passenger surge.

Representatives from the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) will tell TDs and senators at an Oireachtas committee today that “all options to add spaces have been exhausted” as they give a presentation on summer readiness at Dublin airport.

Issues with Dublin airport parking spaces were already flagged ahead of the summer, with DAA warning then that parking would be “tight” on the May bank holiday weekend. The competition authority ruled out the acquisition of more parking spaces by DAA earlier this year as well.

Shannon airport has similarly struggled to host enough parking spaces, and the airport is advising holidaymakers to book car parking "at least" two weeks in advance of flights.

According to a Shannon airport spokesperson, the recommendation to pre-book so far ahead of time comes as peak season is in full swing.

By booking early, it's hoped that travellers can avoid disappointment and inconvenience while also getting the best price.

According to the Shannon Airport booking website, the Long Stay Green car park - just two to three minutes walk from the airport - is currently sold out for the next week.
