RIP: Body of man in his 50s recovered from water off the coast of Galway tourist hotspot

The body of a man has been recovered from the waters off the coast of a tourist hotspot in Galway.

According to An Garda Síochána, officers in Letterfrack, Co Galway assisted the Coastguard and RNLI in a search and recovery operation on Inishbofin Island.

The island - which has under 200 inhabitants and is known for its stunning scenery and sea angling - is a popular tourist destination.

A man aged in his late 50s believed to be a fisherman was recovered from the water in the early hours of this morning (Thursday July 4).

He has since been removed to the mortuary in University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
