Met Éireann has issued a yellow rain warning for 18 counties, with torrential rain bringing the risk of localised flooding in most counties.
The warning will take effect from 4am on Tuesday until 4am on Wednesday, with rain becoming persistent and heavy at times.
All of Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford are under the 24-hour rain warning.
People are being warned of potential localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions. Poor visibility is also likely in many places.

This morning rain in Munster and south Leinster will spread northwards and extend into Ulster. It will continue through the day and will become heavy at times in parts of Leinster and Ulster.

Western coastal counties will stay mainly dry.
Tonight rain will continue over Ulster, north Connacht and the northern half of Leinster.
It will be drier further south with some clear spells developing in Munster.
Wednesday will continue mostly cloudy over much of the northern half of the country with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
It will be brighter further south with some sunny spells.
