Woman, 50s, hospitalised with serious injuries after horror crash between car and lorry

Both drivers were rushed to hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth for treatment, with the female driver suffering serious injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry in Louth yesterday afternoon.

The crash occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth on Tuesday at approximately 12.10pm.

The female driver of the car, aged in her 50’s, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40’s, was was also taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for medical examination.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were traveling on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, on Tuesday between 11.30am and 12.30pm have been asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
