Gardaí conducted searches of grounds in north Dublin on Monday, near the proposed asylum center in Thornton Hall.

Gardaí said in a statement that a "number of items were recovered" during the course of the search, including "an axe, metal poles, a knife and other implements".

The Irish Mirror reported that the arsenal was hidden in ditches and bushes close to the entrance of the Thornton Hall site in north Dublin.

The find comes less than two weeks after the throats of three pigs were slit at the same site – in an apparent attempt to deter Muslim asylum seekers from staying there.

Gardaí were also called out to the premises on the evening of Wednesday 26th June, where two pigs were discovered with their throats slit.

The animals were attended to by a vet, but sadly the injuries were too severe and the pigs were euthanised. A small piglet also found at the scene was taken into care.

Shortly afterwards, a man (30s) was arrested and detained at a North Dublin Garda Station for an alleged offence under the Criminal Justice, Public Order Act, 1994.

He has since been charged and will appear before Swords District Court on Tuesday, 16th July 2024.

Gardaí confirmed in a statement that investigations are ongoing.

An Garda Síochána would appeal to any person with any information on this incident to contact investigating Gardaí at Swords Garda station 01- 666 4700 or the Garda Confidential Phone number 1800 666 111.
