Office of Public Works to appear before Oireachtas over Leinster House bike shed
The Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has invited the Office of Public Works (OPW) to appear before the committee to answer questions about the Leinster House bicycle shed on October 10.
The revelation earlier this month that the construction of a bike shed at Leinster House cost €335,000 has caused major controversy across the country, with people demanding answers as to how the installation amounted to such an expense.
Ceann Comhairle of the Dáil, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, said that the revelation about the cost of the bicycle shed was a "profound embarrassment."
The OPW is responsible for the works carried out on site at Leinster House and so today the PAC Chairperson, TD Brian Stanley, confirmed that the organisation has been invited to a meeting to review the issue.

Stanley has said that PAC have requested a number of documents relating to the construction of the bicycle shed from the OPW, such as contracts relating to design, planning and construction. In addition, documents regarding the breakdown of costs and management of the project are to be submitted.
Ó Fearghaíl has also invited the OPW Chairperson, John Conlon, to a meeting next week to answer questions regarding the issue.
