Taxi fares set to rise across Ireland as National Transport Authority approve increase

It has been confirmed that the National Transport Authority (NTA) has approved an increase in the National Maximum Taxi Fare, coming into effect across Ireland this coming December the 1st.

The NTA has approved a nine per cent increase in the Maximum Taxi Fair following their latest review. The increase in fares is due to "ensuring that taxi fares continue to reflect the rising costs associated with operating a taxi service in Ireland."

The NTA conduct a review of the maximum taxi fare every two years, and the review that they published this July, concluded that "the costs associated with operating a taxi increased between 2022 and 2024 by approximately 9- 11%."

There will also be an increase in prices at peak times, defined by the NTA as "The Special Rate" which will come into place every weekend 12 midnight to 4am on Friday into Saturday and Saturday into Sunday. According to the NTA this is to " incentivise more drivers to service the nighttime economy."

And there not the only thing that is increasing, the price to book at taxi from December 1st will also increase from €2.00 to €3.00.
