Former sportswoman Catriona Carey appears in court charged with money laundering offences

Catriona Carey, a well-known former sportswoman, has appeared in court charged with money laundering over a three year period.

The 46-year-old Kilkenny native, who now has an address at Rochford Manor, Graiguecullen, County Carlow is charged with three counts of money laundering.

All of the charges are contrary to contrary to Section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 and the offences are alleged to have taken place on dates in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Two other defendants also appeared in court in Dublin this Wednesday morning.

John Steadman of Rossminogue, Craanford, Gorey is accused of 18 offences including unlawfully acting as a solicitor, deception and fraud.

Paddy Maher who has an address at Glenmalure Gun Club, Glenmallure, Co Wicklow is charged with 24 similar offences including unlawfully acting as a solicitor while not being a qualified solicitor.

All three defendants are due appear in court again in the new year.
