BIG MONEY: Murphy's stout saw huge surge in sales due to limited Guinness supply

Over the Christmas period, the owner of Guinness, Diageo had to limit stock supply to the UK due to high demands of the famous beverage. 

Drinkers turned to Murphy's Irish Stout causing a huge surge in sales of 632% during this period.

According to The Drinks Business, some pubs in London introduced Guinness ration cards, which allowed people to buy a pint of Guinness but only after they purchased two other drinks first.

Heineken UK, the makers of Murphy's, said that the stout is "well placed to build on this growth in 2025," and has launched a new interactive 'Map o' Murphy's' showing where exactly you can find it.

The price of Irish stout has also increased in recent times.

According to data from the CSO, "the price of a pint of stout has gone from €5.20 to €5.64, or has risen by 8%, in the 12 months to December 2023, while the price of a pint of lager has gone from €5.73 to €6.06 or was up almost 6% in the year."
