Two women killed and two children injured in Cork crash

Two women have been killed and two children injured in a two-car crash in Mallow, Co Cork.

The incident took place on the N72, at Navigation Road, at around 3.30pm.

One woman in her 60s and another woman in her 40s – who were driving the cars – were pronounced dead at the scene.

A boy and a girl, who were passengers of the car driven by the younger woman, were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment to injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The bodies of both women were taken to the mortuary at Cork University hospital where a post-mortem examination is to take place.

The road was closed pending a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward and for relevant footage to be submitted.
