Emergency services attend incident at Carlow shopping centre

Emergency services are dealing with an incident at a retail premises in Co Carlow.

Gardai said they had attended the scene after the alarm was raised shortly before 6.15pm and that the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to attend.

A spokesperson said there is no further concern for public safety.

A large cordon has been put in place around the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow town.

Gardai, ambulance and fire service are at the scene and a helicopter was hovering overhead.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The premises has been evacuated and the scene is preserved.

“The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to attend.

“At this time, there is no further concern for public safety.”

The spokesperson said anyone who may have recorded footage of the incident is urged not to share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it to gardai at Carlow Garda Station.
