Tributes have poured in following the sad death of Maureen Walsh, one of the truly lovely and special people of ‘old’ Kiltimagh, passed away on Monday, June 2, at St Attracta’s Nursing Home in Charlestown, Co Mayo.
She was mother of the internationally known music manager and TV personality, Louis Walsh.
Maureen (94) was formerly Healy from Clarkfield, Knock, and was predeceased by her husband Frank back in 1995. The family home in Chapel Street was a ‘rambling house’ in former times where people came and went without knocking on the door.
The news of her passing has been received with much sadness in Kiltimagh where Maureen was held in such regard and fond affection. She worked for many years with Western Care, out the road in Ballinamore. There was a quality about Maureen that endeared her to so many people and she loved the game of 25.
She was a devout Christian lady and was a regular at the church ceremonies in the nearby church all down the decades. She never lost that gentle warmth of rural Mayo of which she was so proud and she made herself at home in any company where she was always a treasured guest.
Maureen spent the last eleven years in the kind care of the management and staff at St Attracta’s Nursing Home, Charlestown, and where she welcomed many visitors over those years.
