A van driver is facing prosecution for dangerous driving after they were allegedly caught using two mobile phones while travelling on one of the busiest roads in the country.

The motorist, who has brought the concept of hands-free driving to a new level, was stopped by gardai on the M50 in Dublin during a National Day of Action targeting mobile phone use while driving.

"While on patrol at Blanchardstown, this van was seen swerving in and out of lane 3. (The) Driver was talking on a phone using his right hand while scrolling through a second phone using his left hand and the van was being steered by his knees," said a garda spokesperson who added that the incident happened on the northbound carriageway during rush hour on Wednesday morning.

In a follow-up post on social media, gardai confirmed the driver has now been reported for dangerous driving and that the detection was just one of a number of which were made on Wednesday.
