A learner permit holder has had their car seized in Kildare after attempting to evade gardaí.

Members of the Naas Roads Policing Unit were on duty in Derrinturn when they observed a black Toyota Corolla trying to drive away from them.

Throughout the course of this incident, the driver overtook two vehicles over a continuous white line at the mouth of a junction.

When stopped, a number of offences were detected as the vehicle had no insurance, tax or NCT.

As well as this, the driver was found to be a learner permit holder who had no L-plates displayed.

Following this, the Toyota Corolla was seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and €540 worth of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were given. Three penalty points were also issued.

Court proceedings will follow for the no insurance offence.

Commenting on this, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Kildare said, "Reminder: If you or your vehicle are on the road, ensure both you and the vehicle are legally there."
