Carlow County Council 'behaved and stayed within its means only to be punished for doing so'

A councillor has hit out over Central Government funding allocations to Carlow saying "other councils behaved recklessly with their finances and have been rewarded with additional funding over the years".

Carlow's allocation from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government has actually been reduced by 34% from €34.2m in 2011 to €22.3m up to October of this year.

Cllr Will Paton said: "Minister Eoghan Murphy promised Carlow County Council that when the government balanced the budget, he would be in a position to assist Carlow County Council financially.

"We didn't ask the Minister to take funding away from other councils, rather we asked the Minister to give us a share of any additional funding his department received. I feel totally let down by the Minister.
