'Safety my backside': New Carlow walkway slammed on social media

Independent Councillor Will Paton has described the new walkway as “very disappointing”
A new walkway between Barrack Street and Carlow Shopping Centre has been dubbed “very disappointing” and dangerous.
Independent Councillor Will Paton posted on Facebook to express his feelings on it.
“What should have been a source of good news for Carlow Town - the new walkway between Barrack Street and Carlow Shopping Centre - is a huge disappointment to me,” he shared.
The new pedestrian link was officially opened by Stephen of Carlow Shopping Centre earlier this week, with the aim of making Carlow Town even more connected.
However, Cllr Paton highlighted a key issue with the walkway.
“Who is their right mind designed a walkway with a hidden corner (from the Barrack Street side) - which potentially may allow ne'er-do-wells cause trouble - is beyond me,” he said.

“No person in their right mind would use this walkway at night!” he added.
Cllr Paton says the walkway should have been designed with sides allowing pedestrians to see all aspects of the walkway.
“Pedestrian safety my backside! 2/10 for effort - this needs to be addressed QUICKLY,” he concluded.
