While Longford are almost certainly guaranteed a place in the knockout stage of the Tailteann Cup due to their superior score difference, there is still something at stake in their remaining Group 3 fixture at O’Moore Park in Portlaoise on Sunday, throw-in 3pm.
Part of a double bill along with the ‘dead rubber’ meeting of table toppers Limerick and pointless Wicklow (1pm), a win for Carlow will clinch second spot in the group.
Inspired by their surprise win over Wicklow in Round 1, Carlow were then well beaten (1-19 to 0-14) by Limerick at Netwatch Cullen Park but showed a lot of spirit to be on level terms at the break.
The dangerman in the full-forward-line is Darragh Foley, deadly accurate from both frees and play.
The majority of the same Longford and Carlow players featured in the O’Byrne Cup game at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park back in January when the home county cruised to a comprehensive 0-15 to 0-4 victory.
