No relief from brutal weather as Met Éireann gives update beyond current warnings

It looks like wet, windy and generally miserable conditions are here to stay for Ireland this week even when current weather warnings lapse on Tuesday.

A Status Orange rain warnings for Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford remains in place until 1am on Tuesday and warns of flooding from a deluge of rain in those counties.

A Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow and Roscommon will also lapse at 1am on Tuesday.

Despite that, the weather looks to stay unsettled right through to next weekend, according to Met Éireann.

They say that Tuesday will bring a "mix of cloud and scattered showers but some dry spells at times too," adding that, "the showers will become more isolated during the afternoon with some sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees and generally light winds."

Forecasters predict that Tuesday night will be mostly fine and dry with clear spells.

"Cloud will thicken from the south early in the night with rain developing across southern counties. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees and light winds," they said.

"Cloudy early on with outbreaks of rain across Munster [on Wednesday]. The rain will gradually spread northeast across the country later in the morning and afternoon. Some heavy and thundery falls are possible with spot flooding also. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees and blustery winds.

"Overcast with widespread rain, heavy at times too [on Wednesday night]. The rain will gradually move away to the north followed by scattered showers overnight. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees and blustery westerly winds."

Met Éireann says Thursday will be "rather cloudy with scattered showers, some heavy in the west. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees and a fresh to moderate southwesterly breeze.

"Staying wet and unsettled through the night with scattered showers and overcast conditions for most areas. Blustery winds will fall light with lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with some mist and fog patches developing overnight."

Beyond that, they say "current indications are that the unsettled weather will continue through Friday with showers forecast for most counties, some possibly heavy at times too. Temperatures are likely to reach the low teens."
