Met Éireann issues weather warnings with five counties pinpointed for battering
Ireland's weather looks set to remain unsettled this week with Met Éireann prompted to issue a series of warning covering five counties. The warnings for rain and wind were issued on Monday and extended into Tuesday.
The first warning is a Status Yellow wind and rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry.
Issuing the warning, Met Éireann said: "From Monday evening to Tuesday morning, very strong and gusty west to southwest winds and spells of heavy rain."
They list a number of possible impacts of the inclement weather in both counties, including "falling branches, damage to temporary structures, localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions."
The warning is valid from 7pm on Monday until 6am on Tuesday.
A similar Status Yellow wind warning has also been issued for Clare, Limerick and Galway on Tuesday.
It too says there will be "very strong and gusty southwest winds for a time on Tuesday morning."
Impacts include falling branches, damage to temporary structures, wave overtopping and difficult travelling conditions.
This warning comes into force at 1am on Tuesday and remains in place until 8am.
In their general forecast, Met Éireann says we can all expect "changeable weather" this week but add that "rainfall totals will be lower than in recent weeks."
For Monday evening, they say "rain will clear away to the northeast at first with drier and clearer weather developing for many for a time. However, a further spell of heavy rain will quickly return to the south of the country overnight bringing the chance of some localised flooding there. Turning very windy in the southwest and west. Strong and gusty southeast winds, will veer southwest in direction overnight. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees."
They add that it will be "a blustery and rather wet start on Tuesday with scattered outbreaks of rain across the country. Turning drier during the day as rain clears away to the north with good spells of sunshine developing. Maximum temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with fresh to strong southwest winds moderating through the day.
"Largely dry with clear skies at first on Tuesday night but cloud will thicken from the Atlantic with rain developing in the south and west later in the night. Rather cold for a time early in the night in the north and east with lows of 2 to 5 degrees, less cold further south and west with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees. Southeast winds will freshen overnight," the forecast continues.
"It looks set to be mostly cloudy and fairly windy on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain in the south and west. Plenty of dry weather in the north and east with just occasional light rain or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh to strong southeast winds. Staying breezy on Wednesday night with further rain and drizzle at times in the south and southwest but mostly dry elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with fresh southeast breezes.
"Lots of dry and bright weather is expected on Thursday with sunny spells and patchy cloud for most. However, it will be cloudier across parts of the south and southwest with the chance of a little rain or drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with fresh east or southeast winds. Mostly dry on Thursday night apart from the odd light shower. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with a moderate to fresh easterly breeze.
"Latest indications are that Friday will be another mostly dry day with some sunny spells. However, there is the chance of cloudier conditions with patchy rain at times in south Munster. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees, mildest in the west with a moderate to fresh easterly breeze."
Beyond that, the early forecast for next week is quite good: "An easterly air-flow is expected to cover Ireland for the weekend with plenty of dry weather overall. However, there is the chance that rain will edge into parts of the south and southeast at times."
