Met Éireann has issued status orange rain warnings for three counties
Met Eireann has issued status orange rain warnings for three counties as Storm Bert is expected to bring intense falls of rain over a short period of time this weekend.
The warnings, which were issued this Thursday afternoon, apply to Cork, Kerry and Galway and are due to come into effect at midnight on Saturday.
They will remain valid until 10am on Saturday and potential impacts include surface flooding, possible river flooding and very difficult travelling conditions.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann says Storm Bert - the second named storm of the season - is likely to bring strong winds and heavy rain to most areas as it passes over Ireland this weekend.
A separate status yellow wind and rain warning for Ireland is due to come into effect at 10pm on Friday.
It states that "very strong southeast to south winds coupled with heavy rain" can be expected up until 12 midday on Saturday.
