'Flooding, fallen trees' likley in Carlow as yellow weather warning comes into effect

Two Status Yellow Weather Warnings come into effect in Carlow this evening
“Flooding” and “fallen trees” are likely in Carlow overnight as two Status Yellow Weather Warnings come into effect.
Heavy rain associated with Storm Austen will spread across the country, as strong winds will strengthen further, especially in the south and southeast.
Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, localised flooding possible, debris and loose objects becoming displaced, and some fallen trees and branches.
Outdoor events may be impacted as well.
A Yellow Wind Warning will come into effect at 7pm this evening, remaining in place until 10am on Friday.
A Yellow Rain Warning will come into effect at the same time, but will expire at 8am on Friday.
Orange rainfall warnings have been issued now for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Dublin, Wexford, and Wicklow.
That will be in place from 10pm tonight until 5pm tomorrow.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said on Tuesday that “the exact track of #StormAusten remains a little uncertain.”
He added that Storm Austen, the first named storm of the 2026/2027 season, was named by the UK Met Office.
“The unsettled weather will not end with Storm Austen. Another area of low pressure is forecast to track to the north of Ireland over the Bank Holiday weekend, with the potential for a further spell of wet and windy weather,” the Met Éireann website states.
It adds that the October Bank Holiday will remain blustery.
“Once Storm Austen clears on Friday, there will be a brief drier interlude. However, conditions will become very unsettled over the weekend,” Met Éireann says.
