Carlow welcomes golfers from Ireland and beyond to annual golf classic

The County Carlow golf classic begins today with Carlow tourism welcoming golfers from around the world
The County Carlow Golf Classic gets underway today, Monday, September 7, welcoming golfers from Ireland and abroad for three days of competition across some of the region’s leading courses.
Carlow Tourism has said it is delighted to have secured funding from Ireland’s Ancient East to support the operation of the Golf Classic. Together with Carlow Tourism’s main funding partner, Carlow County Council, the funding has helped make the event possible.
The 2026 Classic welcomes golfers from Ireland, the UK, Spain and Switzerland, bringing participants together for three days of golf and hospitality in County Carlow.
The annual event, which runs until Wednesday, September 9, will see four person teams take on Carlow Golf Club, Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club and Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort over the three days.
The package includes three rounds of golf, with lunch provided for participants each day, as well as a substantial €7,000 prize fund up for grabs.
Prizes are available across overall, ladies, daily and mixed team categories, with the overall winners decided on the basis of their score across all three days.
The competition is played in Stableford format, with the best two scores counting on each hole. Golfers play off 85% of their course handicap, with participation open to Golf Ireland members and teams with official handicap documentation from around the world.
Teams must remain the same throughout the three days, while mixed teams must consist of two male and two female golfers.
The County Carlow Golf Classic has built up a loyal following over the years, with the event combining competitive golf with a strong social atmosphere and an opportunity for visitors to experience Carlow’s hospitality.
The three day event will finish with the County Carlow Golf Classic Gala Dinner on Wednesday evening.
The gala dinner will take place at the four star Woodford Dolmen Hotel on the Kilkenny Road in Carlow at 8pm on Wednesday, where all prizes will be presented to the winning teams.
With golfers from four countries taking part and competition taking place across three courses, the County Carlow Golf Classic promises another busy few days for golf enthusiasts while showcasing what Carlow has to offer as a golfing and tourism destination.
