WATCH: Tipperary man home from US remembers nights out with Shane MacGowan in the 90s

One Tipperary native made the long journey home from his adopted home in the US to be in Nenagh for the funeral of legendary Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan.

Joe Kennedy, originally from Lorrha, spoke to our reporter about his affinity with Shane and meeting him and spending nights out with him in New York in the 80s and 90s.

He said "we will miss him" as he reminisced and spoke of being home to Tipperary for the funeral with his two brothers.

He said we will never see the likes of Shane again, asking, "Where is the next Shane MacGowan?"

The Pogues frontman died last week aged 65. His coffin, draped in the Irish tricolour, was carried in a horse-drawn hearse past applauding crowds in the capital on Friday before heading for Nenagh for funereal mass at St Mary’s of the Rosary Church in Nenagh.
