WATCH: Trailer drops for Mickey Mouse slasher as character enters public domain

A new teaser trailer for the upcoming slasher movie that depicts a knife wielding killer wearing a Mickey Mouse mask has been released.

Disney's earliest version of the famous cartoon mouse has entered the public domain in the US meaning copyright is no longer an issue for anyone who wants to rework and use this early version of his image.

The movie called Mickey's Mouse Trap uses imagery from Steamboat Willie that entered the public domain on New Years Day, 95 years after its initial release in 1928.

The movie follows a group of friends that are being stalked by this masked killer and director Jamie Bailey says "We just wanted to have fun with it all".

"I mean it's Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse murdering people. It's ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows", added Bailey.
