A man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s were pronounced dead when Gardái arrived at the scene shortly after 8am on Wednesday.

A Garda investigation has been launched after the discovery of two bodies at a house in Bray.

Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of the bodies of a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s, shortly after 8am on Wednesday.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, in the residence on Old Connaught Avenue in Bray, just over the Dublin border from Co Wicklow.

The scene has been preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and post-mortem examinations will be arranged.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.

The outcome of the post-mortem examinations will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.

Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady described the situation as “unbearable and unimaginable for everyone”.

He told the Press Association: “It is just absolutely horrific news this morning.

“I was down in Cois Cairn and speaking to a lot of the residents, neighbours – and just a sense of shock and disbelief that something like this has happened right on their doorstep.

“Obviously, my condolences to the families of both individuals and the wider community in the area.”
