Carlow woman shares update on MS and appeals for support for treatment

Carlow woman Yvonne Geoghegan is seeking help in funding her HSCT treatment in Mexico

A young Carlow woman, Yvonne Geoghegan, 25, is seeking the public's help with raising funds for her HSCT treatment to treat her multiple sclerosis (MS).

She is seeking funding on GoFundMe with a link to the fundraiser here.

A little bit about Yvonne's journey from the GoFundMe page:

"Hi, my name is Yvonne, and as some of you may know, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019 at 25 years old.

MS causes the immune system to mistakenly attack the nerves protective layer, leading to many unpredictable and sometimes permanent symptoms.

Although my diagnoses is relapsing remitting MS, the attacks I've had have been aggressive, leading to permanent loss of vision in my right eye, slight decreased vision in my left eye, weakness in my right leg, and extreme fatigue."

Yvonne has recently shared an update to her journey and how her condition has been developing:

"Today we got the unfortunate news that, once again, the new treatment isn't working and I've developed even more lesions on my spine and brain.

We had a fair idea; over the past few weeks, I've noticed a loss of sensation in three of my fingers and have been experiencing extreme muscle spasms. But even though I was expecting it and I've heard it all before, it still doesn't make it any easier hearing those words.

Unfortunately, this treatment was one of the top tier treatments for MS in Ireland, which leaves me with even less hope that the next one offered here will be any different.

So far, everyone has been amazing and I will be forever thankful to those of you who were kind enough to donate, share, and offer your well wishes and support, but now we need this to go even further. Please like, share, comment, or send this to anyone who you think might be in a position to help- whether that's by helping us raise awareness or by donating."

More about Yvonne's story and how to donate can be found on her GoFundMe fundraiser with the link for the fundraiser HERE.
