Carlow County Council has received a planning permission request for works relating to a wind farm

A planning permission application has been made to Carlow County Council regarding a wind farm planned for the county.

Booluvannanan Renewable Energy Ltd. submitted the application on October 30th.

The proposed development forms part of works to facilitate the Bilboa Wind Farm, which would consist of five wind turbines that are over 136m in height.

Carlow County Council granted permission, but it subsequently expired, according to the Carlow e-planning portal.

The proposed development will involve the installation of approximately 5.7km of underground electrical cabling, upgrading of approximately 3.1km of an existing forestry track, and site drainage and tree felling, among other things.

A concurrent planning application is being made to Laois County Council for elements within the administrative boundary of Laois County Council.

This includes the installation of approximately 1.7km of underground electrical cabling, a 38 kV substation and associated compound including a single-storey control building (5.2m height and 195sqm), the installation of approximately 390m of underground electrical cabling from the proposed substation, creating a loop-in connection to the existing 38kV underground electricity network, and junction accommodation works along the turbine delivery route, including temporary overrun areas.

The development is situated within the townlands of Clogrenan, Ballinabrannagh, Craanlusky, Tomard Lower, Tomard Upper, Boolyrathoran, Boolyvannanan, and Coolnakisha.

The Bilboa Wind Farm is expected to have the capacity to power a “significant number of homes and businesses with clean, green, renewable energy,” according to its webiste.
