Templepeter Church Ruins, Carlow
Monuments across Carlow will be "preserved and protected" after over €125,000 in funding has been announced to do so.
Funding was granted under the 2026 Community Monuments Fund, which has seen over €8 million allocated to 104 projects nationally.
It was announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD.
These grants help owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them for the future and improve access.
In Carlow, €100,000 was granted for conservation works on the Templepeter Church Ruins, and €25,553.25 has been allocated for conservation plans for the Barragh Church and Graveyard.

"This is a very welcome and important investment in our local heritage... These sites are not only of historical significance but are also central to community identity, tourism, and education," Deputy John McGuinness said.
First established in 2020, the Community Monuments Fund supports a range of initiatives to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments and historic sites.
This investment safeguards monuments for the benefit of communities and the public by enabling conservation works and repairs, as well as building resilience through protecting monuments from the effects of extreme weather and climate change.
