Eight social houses have been approved for Fr Flood Avenue in Rathvilly.

In a statement, Cllr Brian O'Donoghue said: "I’m delighted the eight houses have finally been approved for Fr Flood Avenue.

"I was very proud and honoured to have named the estate when the first ten houses were under construction after our long serving parish priest, the late Fr. Edward Flood.

"Huge thanks have to go to Pat Deering and the housing staff of Lily Slye, Michael Brennan, Josephine Kavanagh and Sarah Gallagher for having the foresight, design and persistence to get this through the department."

He added: "The eight houses will help reduce the social housing list and finish off a brand new estate in Rathvilly.

"I would remind people not to take heed of politicians who promise people houses. Politicians can absolutely assist in the application process and help further your case, but we do not have a direct say in who houses are allocated to, its time to bust that myth."
