Net Zero Energy will host a public information day on August 12th

A public information day hosted by the company proposing a major energy storage facility in Carlow will be taking place next month.

Net Zero Energy will meet with Carlow councillors ahead of the information day, which will be at Rathoe Community Hall on August 12th.

It is proposing that an energy storage facility be built just outside of Rathoe, at the Rathrush Green Energy Park.

The facility will use surplus renewable electricity to separate hydrogen from wastewater in a process called hydrolysis.

It is estimated to save 180,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per annum, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 40,000 cars off the road, according to the Irish Independent.

Net Zero Energy will meet with Tullow Municipal District Councillors to discuss the new facility, according to KCLR.

No date for that meeting has been set yet, but Councillors have “lots of questions.”

“We’re only beginning to get our heads around the significance of what’s likely looking to take place. Serious concerns in the area, and many of those I’m sure we’d all share. It’ll be an opportunity for us to put those questions to the personnel backing the company,” Cllr John Pender said.

Once the project is completed, 70 long-term jobs will be made available, with 1,500 being made during the construction phase.
