A skydive is being organised to raise funds for Carlow's Shan Tynan and her trips to Texas for check ups.

Shan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just 16-years-old.

After eight months of chemo with little success, her mother Leona started the mammoth task of raising €600,000 so Shan could take part in US clinical trials - a move that would save her young daughter's life.

A mass was held over the weekend at Graiguecullen Parish Centre to support Shan's ongoing travel and treatment expenses.

Later this month Shan will head back to Texas for her review and the family "are hopeful we will only receive positive news".

In a post on Facebook, the family said: "Shauntelle will travel to Texas again on February 17 to March 1 and this event [the mass] along with another planned for April will help to meet her costs for her following trip later this summer.

"We will have details of an upcoming sky dive (possibly to happen in June) if anyone is interested in taking part or supporting an event please contact us on the page.

"Again thank you all for never giving up on Shan! It means so much."
